Boston – August 28, 2008 – OutStart has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “visionaries” quadrant of this year’s “Corporate Learning Systems Magic Quadrant(1).” The Corporate Learning Systems Magic Quadrant, previously named the “Magic Quadrant for E-Learning Suites,” provides a synopsis of and advice about software firms that deliver, analyze and manage training via the web.
“We believe the inclusion of OutStart vis-à-vis last year’s Magic Quadrant is the result of two things. First, it is evidence of the growing importance that buyers of learning technologies are putting on content, specifically learning content management systems (LCMS),” said Massood Zarrabian, CEO of OutStart. “Second, buyers now see the value of combining social collaboration softwarewith learning content software to create and share knowledge.”
Gartner’s Magic Quadrant positions vendors between vertical and horizontal axes with the horizontal axis representing completeness of vision and the vertical axis indicating ability to execute.
For its latest Magic Quadrant, Gartner evaluated vendors on the functionality of their corporate learning solution (CLS) and their ability to execute. A CLS has four core components:
- LMS: This supports a variety of functions relating to the administration and management of learning interventions, such as assessment, records management, provision of learning, management of training resources and reporting.
- LCMS and content authoring tools: These enable the creation, storage, delivery and reuse of learning content.
- Virtual classrooms and multimodal electronic delivery capabilities: These underpin formal, informal and blended approaches to learning.
- Professional services:For the creation of custom content, development of learning strategy and support of implementation.
