Een tijd geleden heb ik over mijn eerste ervaringen met de OculusGo geschreven. Daarbij lag het accent op het gebruik van speciaal ontwikkelde apps voor deze VR-headset. Je kunt echter ook zelf content op deze bril plaatsen.
Eén van de kritiekpunten op de OculusGo is, zoals ik al schreef, de geslotenheid van het systeem. Deze geslotenheid wordt al minder als je er zelf content aan toe kunt voegen. Ik werd hierop onlangs gewezen door Sjoerd Renkers van Vak.Expert. Zij hebben bij het Meander Medisch Centrum een experiment uitgevoerd om een beroepshandeling vast te leggen met behulp van een 360° video opstelling en een standalone VR bril. De OculusGo kun je hierbij op twee manieren gebruiken.
David Lockhart heeft ook over zijn eerste ervaringen met de OculusGo geschreven. Hij schrijft onder meer:
Overall, I LOVE the Oculus Go. There is not anything even remotely close to it on the market at the moment. I still don’t think I would recommend it for extensive school use yet though. I think there are just too many factors in the VR game at the moment that can change quickly. (…) It’s going to take VR companies (including Oculus) time to see the education value in their product and have a team that focuses on education issue and content. There is value in the educational content that is already on Oculus, but it needs to continue to be flushed out to make a real school impact. (…) If there is any place for this to start in schools, I think it may be having 1 or 2 in a media center at the high school level to experience destinations of study, and I think it absolutely has a place in higher education. Really, Oculus Go is not the all in one VR answer schools are looking for, but it one of the best places to start to get close.
